If you’re coming to Paris, then I have no doubt you will want to know where all the best Eiffel Tower photo spots are. After visiting Paris 3 times, we have been to *almost* every viewpoint there is to see the Eiffel Tower. They are all beautiful and unique in their own way! But of course, you can see the Eiffel Tower all over the city of Paris, even if it’s just off in the distance, whether that’s on a bridge, a rooftop, or walking along the Seine.

In this blog, I’ll cover the best viewpoints to see the Eiffel tower with exact coordinates and tips for taking photos there. We had no issues using the Google Maps “walk” feature to take us exactly where we wanted to go.

To preface, we visited in January 2025 so the weather was very typical gloomy winter weather. We sadly didn’t get any colorful sunrises or sunsets, although some of these spots are known for it. And of course, all the trees leaves are dead. So depending on the time of year you visit, these photo spots will be even more beautiful! We took our maternity photos in Paris with our tripod so you’ll notice a lot of “bump” photos too. :)

Best Eiffel Tower Photo Spots:

Rue De L’université

Coordinates: 48.859832, 2.296444

This is probably the most famous spot to take photos with the Eiffel Tower in all of Paris (and our personal favorite)! Honestly, it’s for a good reason. It’s absolutely beautiful! You’re at the end of a picturesque Parisian street right underneath the Eiffel Tower.

All that being said, this spot WILL be busy! But in our opinion, it’s still very worth visiting, even if it’s more crowded.

Another road nearby we’ve read is a great backup spot if Rue De L’université is too crowded is Rue Buenos-Ayres. We haven’t visited there ourselves, though!

Disclaimer: We waited between large crowds to take photos to minimize the people in our backdrop, but we still edited a few people out of our photos!

Champ de Mars

Coordinates: 48.855528, 2.298697

Champ de Mars is the large grassy area right next to the Eiffel Tower. It’s a great place to picnic and just soak in the views of the Eiffel Tower.

Sadly, during our last 2 visits the grass area has been fenced off so it didn’t make for the most picturesque background. We are assuming it’s because it’s winter and they were trying to protect the grass. So just know if you visit during the summer, it’ll probably be a lot more beautiful!

But even if you visit and the grass is fenced off, the pathway is still a great place to take photos and walk with views of the Eiffel Tower!

Place Du Trocadéro

Coordinates: 48.862304, 2.288217

You may recognize this spot from the viral Instagram proposals or red heart balloon photoshoots. It’s definitely very popular! There are a few different areas, but the main one (also called Palais de Chaillot) is basically a large open platform with unobstructed views of the Eiffel Tower.

Since the Eiffel Tower is relatively far away, we’d recommend using a zoom lens to get the photo effect of the Eiffel Tower super large right behind you. This is a great spot to visit for sunrise or even sunset!

After taking photos at Place du Trocadero, be sure to look down to take photos at the next viewpoint, the Trocadéro Steps!

Disclaimer: we did wait between large crowds to take photos to minimize the people in our backdrop but we still did edit a few people out of our photos!

Trocadéro Steps

Coordinates: 48°51’42.1″N 2°17’18.9″E

The Trocadéro Steps are just below Place du Trocadéro, connecting it with the Jardins du Trocadéro. Another great spot with unobstructed views of the Eiffel Tower. You can really get creative with poses here since you’re on steps! Also, a great spot at sunrise.

Avenue de Camoëns

Coordinates: 48.859485, 2.286839

After Rue De L’université, this is probably our 2nd favorite spot! There’s still a great view of the Eiffel Tower, but the surrounding buildings and architecture add interest. Also, since it’s more of a balcony at the top of a staircase on a dead-end street, you won’t ever have people behind you (but maybe next to you when it’s crowded).

It’s also just a short walk from the Trocadéro photo locations. So you can easily combine them one morning like we did!

Avenue de New York

Coordinates: 48.860821, 2.291939

Avenue de New York is the road along the Seine River on the opposite side of the Eiffel Tower (across the Pont d’léna bridge). The sidewalk has a ledge that’s perfect for taking photos along! You’ll see lots of people sitting up on the ledge, looking back at the Eiffel Tower. Basically, anywhere along the sidewalk, you find (after you map to the coordinates) is great!

Depending on the time of year you visit, the trees will be in bloom which will make for even more beautiful photos! Of course, in the middle of the winter they were quite dead looking.

Pont d’léna

Coordinates: 48°51’35.2″N 2°17’32.1″E

This is the iconic bridge that goes over the River Seine right to the Eiffel Tower. The middle portion of the bridge is closed to car traffic (although either side of this section of this bridge is an active road). It’s a great spot that feels like you’re right under the Eiffel Tower, without actually, so you can see the entire monument.

This is one of our favorite spots to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night! And just in case you don’t know, every hour on the hour for 5 minutes from dusk until 11:45 pm (except for in the summer, it’s 1:00 am), the Eiffel Tower “sparkles.” The Eiffel Tower is fully lit up right after sunset, but seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle is just extra magical! You definitely need to see it AT LEAST once during your trip to Paris, even if you have been to Paris before!

Promenade Marie de Roumarie

Coordinates: 48.858653, 2.292058

This spot was by far the least busy location, even though we visited early afternoon on a Saturday (in the winter). It’s a large pathway lined with park benches that are great to pose with for photos with the Eiffel Tower behind you.

It’s definitely not as much of a “must-see” as the other locations, but it’s a great alternative if some of the others are super busy. And you’ll probably naturally walk right by it! After walking over the Pont d’léna bridge, you’ll take a right before crossing the street (with the Eiffel Tower in front of you).

Cruise on the River Seine

Coordinates: 48.860291, 2.293709

On our second trip to Paris, we actually took a sunset cruise down the Seine, and it was beautiful! The cruise we booked this 1-hour river cruise that took off right next to the Eiffel Tower under Pont d’léna. It’s a great place to take photos of the Eiffel Tower and other famous Paris landmarks from a unique vantage point! While you can do a cruise any time of day, we chose sunset because it was extra beautiful!

After your sunset cruise, you can head up to one of the other photo spots mentioned to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle!

Tips for Visiting the Best Eiffel Tower Photo Spots

#1. Arrive Early to the Eiffel Tower Photo Spots

You will probably not be alone at any of these viewpoints no matter the time of day. That being said, just after sunrise and early morning is the best time to visit for limited crowds. We noticed signicantly more people as the morning and day went on. Some spots we visited multiple times at different times of day, morning is always best when it comes to avoiding crowds for your photos.

But if you don’t care about having people in your background, then any time you can visit is great! A lot of these spots are great to watch the Eiffel Tower sparkle at night as well. Defnitly worth seeing it a few times from different vantage points!

#2. Watch for Pickpockets at the Eiffel Tower Photo Spots

Since many of these viewpoints are popular among tourists, it’s no surprise that pickpockets are common. Be mindful of your belongings, especially while you’re distracted taking photos. We love our Pacsafe Metrosafe 20L Backpack and Pacsafe Vibe 100 Hip Pack to keep all our valuables safe due to all their anti-theft technology. Many of the zippers even have locks, so it’s a lot harder to quickly grab something from your bag!

You’ll also experience a lot of pushy street vendors trying to sell souvenirs or Eiffel Tower photography packages. Especially at night, we would get asked every other minute, so we had to just start ignoring them.

#3. Be Respectful at the Eiffel Tower Photo Spots

As we’ve mentioned a few times, these are popular spots for taking photos of the Eiffel Tower. So that being said, be respectful and mindful of other people taking photos. If it’s busy and everyone is lined up to get that specific spot, try taking turns (if you plan to take more than a few photos). And if you don’t have a tripod, you could even offer to take photos of others and ask them to take some of you as well!

To continue, some of these spots have locals living right around them so don’t be too loud, especially if you are taking photos in the early morning. And don’t ever block traffic to take photos, it’s not necessary and not safe!

Photography Gear for Taking Photos with the Eiffel Tower

If you’re reading this blog, it’s probably because you value taking photos while you travel! Whether that’s to capture your favorite travel memories, get nice photos for Instagram, or share with friends and family (or a mixture of all of the above!), you may be wondering what photography gear you may need.

While iPhones these days have pretty awesome cameras, we always recommend a “real” camera over just a phone camera. The difference in quality is incredible! For reference, all the photos you see in this blog were taken on our Canon R Mirrorless camera with the Canon RF 24-105mm Zoom Lens. It’s our go-to travel camera and worth the investment!

But, if you’re not ready for that level of camera, we’d recommend this Fujifilm X100VI point-and-shoot digital camera. We’ve recommended it to a few of our family and friends who wanted a higher quality photo than a phone but aren’t ready for a bulky, manual camera. They have all LOVED it!

Here’s all our favorite travel photography gear:

Of course, if upgrading to a “real” camera isn’t in the budget, that’s totally okay too! But consider getting a phone tripod to take self-portraits or photos with your partner, family, or friends. When we invested in a tripod years ago, it was such a game-changer for us! We didn’t have to take only selfies or hope we could find a random kind stranger to take a good photo.
